We were promised access to MyHeritage by FamilytreeDNA if we uploaded our DNA tests to MyHeritage. That was taken away shortly there after. Do not believe their selling practice! I have most of my family back to the 1400's so I knew what the test should look like and I have to say it came back correct with a few things I didn't know and with some more checking they were correct.....but....they make false promises to sell their product! just a FYI they can take any promise away when ever they change their minds.

There are a number of companies in the market place offering you "the moon" in terms of your cousins and so on.Take great care in selecting the company you choose. Do not merely believe what you are hoping the advertisements are offering - the "spin-doctors" collect great fees for making a product sound better than it actually is.FamilyTreeDNA is a Houston, Texas, US based firm and having experienced others, this is the firm of my choice. Why?FamilyTreeDNA offers all the tests to a far greater (and deeper degree) that none of the other firms are offering (YDNA, mtDNA and the autosomal test) and all from the one sample (two cheek swabs) provided. It also offers dedicated projects with attendant voluntary and equally dedicated administrators looking after said project (these include Surnames, geographical or Haplogroup which are all free to join). Because the data base holds member results from all over the globe, many a tester is astonished to learn they have family in an unexpected country! One of the special aspects is that the fee is a "one-time" fee for a specifically wanted test. No annual subs; matches are available (and are notified to the tester and are contactable at the tester's decision via their own email system; privacy is at the tester's choice (you decide who can see what); the tester's DNA results are 100% theirs to be stored or destroyed; so many pluses on so many levels.Superlatives run out, but FamilytreeDNA is the firm to choose for the serious genealogist.

I have been a project admin at FTDNA for 13 years now and can't imagine being anywhere else. They are the only company that has reputable security and any real form of public spiritedness or commitment to genetic genealogy, There's no other place to run one-name studies, serious surname studies and geographical projects, the only place you will get serious help from committed highly experienced volunteers, and the only company that really supports Y and mtDNA testing with public databases that are major research tools. Sure, we've had our differences as they have turned more to gimmicks like other companies and silly "ethnicity estimates". Sure they are not so good at autosomal - almost everyone does a free transfer from other companies that pump far more money into advertising - but atDNA has never interested me much, you can't do much with it except dig out odd cousins. Even on atDNA, however, I get people to transfer from elsewhere so we can use the chromosome browser.Really the only company for serious researchers.

Familytreedna has the complete package of analysis that is relevant for a serious genetic genealogist. Although the website could be better user-friendly, but its the results that matter. Theyr variety of Y-DNA analysis is one of the very best, if you would like just to know your haplogroup or invest in a advanced Big-Y. The advanced will not only confirm how closely two paternal lineages is connected, but also identify new branches and find your unique leaf on the tree. You can connect yourself back to ancient times or recent..Theyr mtDNA analysis can analyze the whole mt-DNA and give you more than just a haplogroup, but also identify new branches and who shares your maternal lineage.Last but not least theyr Familyfinder test, which is comparable with the autosomal test at Ancestry, Myheritage and 23andMe etc. Theyr test includes a chromosome browser which is very usefull and you can also combine it with the Y-DNA and mtDNA results giving you a much fuller picture way back in time and much more trustworthy. I use Familytreedna because it is a trusthworthy scientific company, that takes the customers privacy serious, dont test for genetic diseases or health, have the complete package of analysis that a genealogist would ever need. They have some great projects, run by genealogists from all over the world, dedicated to help and expand the knowledge of each branch. And lastly they store your DNA-sample for the future, you never know if you can get another sample and there could be better analysis in the future.

Would deserve 4 or five stars with faster customer services.We got some issues with the logins as the email address for 2 out of 3 kits were not registered properly and it took a long time for customer services to fix it (2-3 weeks).However, we got results for the 3 kits and this was quite insightful. It is quite important to take time to read all the explanation on the website regarding your ethnic origins. (We were mislead by the fact that one of us had almost 50% of his autosomal DNA similar to population of British islands but had no known ancestry from UK. After research it turns out that our region (east of France) was populated by migrants from Saxony via multiple migration waves which explains the similarities in DNA with the Anglo-saxons who populated the United Kingdom many centuries ago...)

I’ve used FTDNA and have been fairly pleased with the information that was presented. Before November 2019, I was able to import a GEDCOM file to build a Family Tree. The week before the latest software update, I experienced problems and was told by the Support Group to wait till the end of month update and try again. I was told to export another GEDCOM file and try again. Still FTDNA has not been able to work through the Family Tree ‘bug’ report and their IT Department has no planned update time for resolution.

Ancestry will not allow you to upload your FTDNA results to your family tree on ancestry. I did this test before ancestry had their own test

I believe Family Tree DNA is an excellent, top of the line genetic sequencing company!!! I love the fact that they use the Human Omni Express 24- chip and NovaSeg Sequencing system for genotyping DNA and ethnic origins, which is very powerful technology. They do a brilliant job drilling thousands of years into the history of genetic-ethnic components and I appreciate very much that they offer you the Ancient Origins feature, which is a prime aspect of this company allowing you to look into your prehistoric origins all the way back to the Neolithic and even further, I absolutely love this!!! I don't have a problem with my DNA results, they make sense in the timeline that Family Tree looks at my ethnic history which is older than other companies, the reason why I give Family Tree DNA four stars is because I think they should be more specific as far as their list of ethnicities not just showing West Africa, Southeast Europe or Middle Eastern but then again that is maybe because they look at really ancient DNA. Also, I had a lot problems downloading my Raw data and it was quite a process even with a compressing file program so I think they should have an easier system. The other issue is, I understand that DNA genotyping is a costly process but they charge for every test that looks into mitochondrial and paternal lineage histories for every SNP which makes it even more expensive than other companies if you want to do it and it is a lot of money. Nonetheless, I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience with Family Tree DNA and I recommend it to anyone specially if you want to do your Family Finder Origins(other features included) for $79.00 it is perfect!!!
